Giving Back

The Métis Nation of Ontario flag

I have been a proud member of the Métis Nation of Ontario since 1999.  As the descendant of a small group of families that were forced to leave their homes on Drummond Island sometime after the War of 1812, I was keen to learn more about my family's rich heritage.

In November 2021, I joined the Highland Waters Métis Council as a Councilor. Our mandate is to provide direct support to our citizens, and to facilitate a better understanding of our culture and traditions as one of Canada's Indigenous Peoples.

In addition to my Council work, I am a member of the Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic District School Board Indigenous Advisory Council (IAC) representing Métis learners and helping to support Indigenous students in our board.

I also provide live audio support to facilitate the many great events that take place at my school - everything from school mass, to coffee house, vocal concerts, guest speakers etc. This often requires hours of equipment set-up and preparation before the event even happens. Helping to showcase the talent of our young people is truly a source of joy for me, and I am grateful to play my part in the success of the event.
